Depression and Hope: Part One
Do you live here? I found this on the internet. It must be interesting to live in a place called ‘Hope’. Better than living somewhere called ‘Hopeless’ right?
This next series is called ‘Depression and Hope’. If you are not doing well right now you might be saying ‘what’s the point?’ I know just how you feel.
But this might be kind of fun! Why? Because depression is an illness that could easily be renamed ‘hopelessness’ because that is how most of us feel when we are depressed – hopeless….
Yet that very thing that we feel – lack of hope – is the very thing that we will need to get us through. Let’s face it, no matter who we are or what we are going through, hope is necessary for us all.
“Once you choose hope, anything’s possible”. Who said that? Christopher Reeves. Now there was someone who held onto hope in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles.
That is what we must do too. Hold onto hope.
It sounds as though Dale Carnegie must have been describing Christopher Reeves and others like him when he said “Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all.”
You might be saying “this is easier said than done Wendy” and you are right. But what choice do we have? Besides, to have hope is as natural as sneezing or laughing or crying.
Okay, so you probably agree with me so far, that we all need hope. Now you are probably wondering just how are you going to get some. That is what I will be chatting about this week.
What about you today? Do you have hope? Or does it all seem pointless to you?
I am so glad you dropped by. Join me again at ‘Depression Getaway’ and together we will live, care, laugh, share, learn, discover, forgive and recover.

I absolutely agree with you, Wendy. Having a hope, i.e. a belief that depression can be lifted, is essential.
Unfortunately, clinicians and media often suggest that depression cannot be cured. How often do you come across the stats that over 75% of depressed people get better? Somehow, it is not widely known.
Stay strong, remain hopeful and seek inspiration!

Thanks for that vote of confidence. You are right. Too often we leave a medical office feeling that things will never change. I always love it when my doctor says to me “we have options, we still have options”. It is like a hope lifeline. That is my goal with ‘Depression Getaway’, to send a hope lifeline.
